Remote Video Surveillance is a new form of video monitoring that successfully enters the security market. This service appeared because video transmission over the internet is becoming more and more common and cheap. Virtually anyone can buy a small IP camera and connect it to the internet without any special technical knowledge. You can connect to such a camera from anywhere in the world via the Internet and view the image online from your facility. An example of a system that also includes such remote video monitoring is Safestar.
In fact, standard video monitoring, e.g. CCTV protection, is not revealing at the moment. However, it should be remembered that in the case of video transmission via the Internet, mainly mobile, there are some technical limitations. There is a risk of additional costs related to the increased amount of data transferred. There is also a problem of bandwidth and possible data transfer limits. Remote video monitoring differs from fixed-line solutions, making remote surveillance possible.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CCTV VIDEO MONITORING AND REMOTE VIDEO MONITORING
Remote Video Surveillance differs from modern CCTV systems or solutions that we commonly know as video monitoring. Technically, these are virtually identical systems. However, the fact that they are used for slightly different tasks means that they differ in important technical parameters. Classic CCTV video monitoring may not always be easily implemented in Remote Video Surveillance. Why?
CCTV PROTECTION FOCUSES ON IMAGE QUALITY
CCTV systems focus on image quality and resolution, the number of transmitted and recorded frames per second. The size of the archived video material is also important. These are extremely important features - especially in situations when a large area is guarded, when you need to identify people, record video material for later use or when you need to identify certain elements in the image.
CCTV PROTECTION WORKS LOCALLY
Classic CCTV video monitoring expects high technical parameters of cameras, e.g. resolution and high number of frames. They cause that real-time image transmission requires connections with sufficiently high bandwidth and low transmission delays. Assuming that many cameras can simultaneously operate in such a system, the demand for transmission bandwidth (internet) can be huge. Therefore, only the so-called local networks made within one object or area. Then classic CCTV video monitoring is able to prove itself. Possible transmission of images in original quality over longer distances requires the construction of dedicated links, usually fiber optic. Therefore, a new form of video monitoring, which is Remote Video Surveillance, appears here.
WHAT REMOTE VIDEO Surveillance IS USED FOR
Related tasks security management for Remote Video Surveillance are different from those of CCTV systems. The essence of ZDW is fast image transmission over a long distance, using available networks. The image does not have to be high resolution, because it is only intended to provide general information about the situation in the monitored object. Often, the GSM network is used to send video or even individual photos.
As part of Remote Video Surveillance, you can perform two main services:
video alarm verification - for operational purposes
For monitoring services, it is important that you can decide on the right response. Remote monitoring is of course fully useful in this respect. Video-verification allows you to reduce the costs associated with operating the so-called false positives. Giving a preview of the situation on the object, video-verification also allows for better management of possible intervention. This solution can also serve customers directly, providing them with remote access to the image from cameras.
Video celebrations - for preventive purposes
The video celebration is a preventive measure that can effectively replace a security guard who has previously performed such celebrations in person at the facility. Thanks to system solutions, you can regularly observe the camera image and perform precise control by performing specific control procedures. Extremely important and useful element that the video celebrations provide is the possibility of extensive reporting and signaling of problems in real time.

It is worth noting that customers with classic CCTV video monitoring do not always have to install additional cameras to implement Remote Video Surveillance. The configuration of currently used cameras and recorders (DVR) allows to provide additional video stream. This stream, of correspondingly lower quality, is well sent to the Emergency Receiving Center.
Remote video surveillance not only for protection
ZDW can be used for other tasks. Often it is a control of compliance with procedures and standards by the client's employees. Checking whether escape routes are not obstructed or checking the clothes of employees are more and more common tasks. This topic will be described in more detail in the next article.
